PINHOLE  COLLECTIVE MEMORY

pinhole: collective memory 165

In Collective Memory, the mechanical indexicality of traditional photography is sublimated into a complex, painterly investigation of cultural entropy and containment. Utilizing a systematic multi-exposure pinhole technique, these works disrupt the chronological linearity of the library shelf and the magazine rack, collapsing thousands of disparate textual artifacts into a singular, claustrophobic plane of light. By eschewing the sharp, authoritative focal point of a modern lens, the series replaces legible titles and individual authors with a spectral, architectural matrix of grid lines and shifting tonal densities. This calculated degradation of semantic clarity mimics the precise mechanics of social amnesia and shared recollection: specific pieces of institutional data dissolve into an ambiguous, ambient hum of texture. The resulting images operate as profound visual metaphors for the weight of accumulated knowledge—not as a clean, digital database, but as a dense, overlapping palimpsest where human thought continuously cross-pollinates, erases, and reformats itself within the cultural subconscious.
